Mrs. Doris M. (Weagle) Hutchinson, of Shrewsbury, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in Shrewsbury Crossings. She was 98.
Doris was born on October 9, 1914 in Shrewsbury at her home located at 539 Boston Turnpike a daughter of the late Stephen J. and Maud (Newton) Weagle and was a lifelong Shrewsbury resident. She graduated from the former Maj. Howard W. Beal High School where she played basketball. She married Chester Hutchinson on April 7, 1945.
She worked as a secretary for the Town of Shrewsbury in its Sewer & Water Department for over 30 years before retiring in 1980.
Doris was an active member of the First Congregational Church and its Women's Fellowship. She was active in various groups in the Church and was a member of the Shrewsbury Business Women's Association. She enjoyed bowling, travelling, working in her yard and will be remembered as a wonderful friend and caregiver to numerous family and friends during their lifetimes.
Her husband, Chester, died August 25, 1982. She is also predeceased by her brothers, Harold, Stanley and Richard Weagle.
She leaves her son, Richard L. Hutchinson and his wife, Jeanne, of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey; her grandchildren, Pamela J. Hutchinson of Basking Ridge, NJ and Melissa A. Lannon and her husband, Kevin, of Sutton; two great-grandchildren, Amelia J. & Jocelyn K. Lannon; her siblings, Donald Weagle of Shrewsbury and Joyce Cheney of Worcester; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Doris' life by gathering for calling hours in Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, on Friday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, January 19th in The First Congregational Church, 19 Church Road where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
